The Minister for Communication, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekufful on Tuesday June 2 cut the sod for the construction of 30 State of the Art Community Information Centres ( CIC’s ) at Akyem Asuom in the Eastern Region.
The Communication’s Minister said the CIC’s which will be built across the country is an initiative of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC).
According to Ursula the CIC’s will serve as learning centres for the public and students and enable them to access various e-Learning Tools and Platforms even if they don’t have the internet at home.
The Ministry said it expects the contractors executing the projects to complete all the 30 CICs within a period of 6 months adding that it will be closely monitoring the progress of the work to ensure it’s done according to schedule.
The Minister speaking at the ceremony called on District Assemblies, MPs, Public spirited individuals, and Corporate Organizations to partner Government through GIFEC to ensure that every under-served and unserved community in the country becomes part of the digital society.
She expressed gratitude for the support from Osaberima Ofosuhene Apenteng II (Asuom Hene) and his traditional leaders, Hon Seth Antwi Boasiako (MCE, Kwaebibrem Municipal Assembly), Mr. Abraham Kofi Asante (GIFEC Administrator) in making this dream a reality.
The Member of Parliament entreated all beneficiary communities to protect and maintain this facility when completed.
