The Ghana Education Service (GES) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education says all Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) have been sent to all Senior High schools across the country to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.
According to the Education Service, face masks, veronica buckets, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, tissues, COVID-19 testing Thermometer guns have been distributed to SHS schools.
The Service in line with President Akufo-Addo’s directive said a maximum of 25 students will be permitted in each class, adding that all day students in schools with boarding houses will be resident in these boarding houses, whilst day students, in schools without boarding facilities, will commute from home and will be required to adhere to enhanced hygiene protocols.
It added that eating in dining halls will be inappropriate numbers and no visitors to the schools will be allowed.
Also, there will be no mass gatherings and no sporting activities. Religious activities, under the new protocols, will be permitted. Social distancing and the wearing of face masks are mandatory in our schools.
It furthered that each student, teaching and non-teaching staff, invigilator, and school administrator, numbering some 800,000, will be provided with 3 pieces of reusable face masks.
As directed by President Akufo-Addo, GES said one dormitory block in each senior high school has been reserved as an isolation centre, in the event of a student falling sick.
The GES entreats all students to adhere to the safety protocols outlined by the Education Ministry as the government provides all the necessary PPEs to them.
