President Akufo-Addo has assured that each final year student and teacher will be equipped with reusable face masks before June 15, 2020, the reopening date of schools since its closure on March 16, 2020.
The President of the Republic gave this assurance during his 10th televised address to the citizenry on May 31, 2020, on updates and measures being put in place by the government in the fight of the novel coronavirus pandemic which has at least claimed the lives of 36 persons.
According to the President, his decision to reopen schools for only final year students follows a successful conclusion of consultations with relevant stakeholders and the teacher unions.
He added that the reopening of schools for only the final year’s will enable teachers to complete their unfinished topics and also to help them prepare for their various postponed examinations.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo furthered that schools will officially resume on June 15, 2020, with a minimum attendance of 25 students for only form 3 Senior High School (SHS) students. He added that SHS Form 2 gold track students are to report to school on June 22, 2020.
“The form 3 students in Junior high school (JHS) are to reopen the school on June 29 2020 with a minimum attendance of at least 30 pupils”. Akufo-Addo said.
“Final-year university students are to report on 15 June with a half class size population,” he said
In addition to the reusable face masks, President Akufo-Addo said the Ministry of Education would soon outline special preventive protocols to help students and teachers from contracting the disease.
