The Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has disclosed President Akufo-Addo has set up a special taskforce to ensure the safety of teachers and final year students ahead of school re-opening.
The government’s taskforce among other duties will supervise the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and also ensure the COVID-19 safety protocols are adhered to.
According to the Education Minister, the purpose of the force is to ensure there is a safe and conducive environment suitable for teaching and learning.
“His Excellency President Akufo-Addo has formed a special team under the office of the Senior Minister with the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Director General of the Ghana Education Service, the Director-General of Military Logistics, the Deputy Director-General of Police welfare, the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Local Government to coordinate with the distribution of logistics to ensure the safe and successful reopening of schools.
“We admit that the pandemic has brought to bear the need to welcome combine learning because we are getting into a new normal and it is vital that the universities and all Education Institutions in the country are adopting the mix learning”. NAPO added.
The President of the Republic in his first televised address to the nation on March 15 directed for the closure of all schools throughout the country as part of measures to curb the novel coronavirus which has as of the time writing this post claimed 48 lives.
Consequently, President Akufo-Addo in his 10th televised nation’s address announced for the reopening of schools to only final year students for them to complete the 2019/2020 academic year and proceed to sit for their exit examinations.
The Minister for Education, NAPO addressing the press on safety measures put in place by the government ahead of the June 15 schools reopening outlined some guidelines to be observed by the various institutions.
The popular among other guidelines the Minister said was that there will no be visiting once schools resume.
