The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reportedly ordered a full scholarship to a level 100 visually impaired students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
The level 100 student, Faustina Takyi, whose father disappeared on a fishing voyage 20 years ago, was paying with her friends when of them bit her eye causing her to lose her sight at age 13.
Madam Esi, her 60-year old unemployed mother has since been her angle taking care of her alongside other two siblings with once a while support from others.
The story of the old woman and Faustina which was televised on Mother’s Day on TV3 got the attention of many people including President Akufo-Addo who directed the Scholarship Secretariat to offer her a full scholarship.
The Municipal chief executive for Mfantiman, Kenneth Kelly Essuman, and some officials of the Scholarship Secretariat on May 12 visited the home of Faustina to announce the President’s support.
Four days later, the team went to the home to officially present the scholarship letter, a laptop and mobile phone to Fausitna who hopes to become a teacher.
Madam Esi also receives cash donated kind-hearted individuals who were touched by her story. The money is to support her to start petty trading again.
