Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has on behalf of John Mahama proclaimed that the flagbearer in his next coming will maintain teachers’ and nurses’ allowance should the NDC gain power in the 2020 elections.
The Spokesperson speaking on HappyFM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show monitored by Georgeweb.org revealed that the Mahama led administration is now willing to maintain the teachers training allowance as they have noticed that is what Ghanaians want.
“The 2021 President, John Mahama will maintain allowance, We have decided this time not to argue with the voter. We replaced it with student loans but if that is what they want we will do that”, Sammy Gymafi told host Kwame Afrifa Mensah.
The Communications Officer said when the NDC comes into power in 2021, the issue of nurse’s and teacher’s unemployment will be a thing of the past, adding that the Mahama government will make the lives of teachers and nurses better by scrapping unemployment and maintaining allowance.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama in 2016 vowed that he will not restore teacher trainee allowance even if it will cost him the 2016 presidential election, This among other reasons best known to Ghanaians made him lost the 2016 elections to his opponent, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
On September 7th, 2016, Mahama tweeted; “On the matter of trainee teacher allowances, better to lose on principle than win using falsehood. We’ll not reverse the decision. #UCC Forum”
